On the twelfth day of Christmas, Mother Nature brought to me, a thin-sheet of ice on Steenburg Lake.
No better time to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday.

It is with great sadness that we've lost Susanna Langman, daughter of Dave & Chris, sister of Erika, to a tragic accident while travelling in California.
She was known to, and loved by, many around the lake, and will be deeply missed and forever in our memory.
The funeral is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 28th at 11:00am at the Orangeville Baptist Church. The wake will be Friday the 27th, one in the afternoon and one in the evening.

You'll notice a couple of additions to our website that will make it even easier for you to stay connected to your friends on Steenburg Lake.
First, we've posted the links to our Facebook and
Twitter pages at the top of this homepage. If you use these services, be sure to add Steenburg Lake to your profile.
Next, if you are a member of the SLCA, you can now have a 'steenburglake.com' e-mail address.
This e-mail address is a convenient way for others to drop you a note.
Any mail sent to this address will be forwarded to your personal e-mail account, which will remain private unless you choose to reply and disclose your personal e-mail information.
The Membership link on this homepage has been updated with our SLCA membership directory, and this is where you will find a members e-mail address. If you have one of these new e-mail addresses, make sure to test it and let me know if it does not work.
Check out these new services, and drop me a note at Internet@steenburglake.com if you have any questions.

These are chilly days at the lake. Some of us still have our seasonal
water lines open, and so far so good. But despite our best efforts,
summer is over.
In preparation for the snowy days ahead, the south road is once again
canvassing for contributions to the winter plowing service.
You can contact Jim
Tanner, John
O'Rourke or John
Bush for more information.

The days are getting cooler, the leaves are changing colour, and this
is a great time of year to be at the lake.
For many of our seasonal residents, it is time to settle back into the
city life and the focus is turning towards the cottage shutdown. Good
news,.... only 38 days until the Cottage Life Fall Show (Nov 6-8).
For those that won't be visiting the lake until the spring, this
website will continue to provide you with current information. The Fall
Newsletter is being assembled, and the 2010 Event Calendar should be
posted soon.
To help you stay in touch with your neighbours, we will be providing
all SLCA members a 'steenburglake.com' e-mail address in 2010.
Additional information to follow in the fall newsletter.
You may have also noticed that the WebCam has changed locations. It
will continue to operate throughout the fall/winter season from 5am -
5pm.

As we head into the final weeks of the summer season, it's a good time
to look back at all the friends, family and events that made this
summer so special. Even when the weather didn't co-operate, you could
always count on a great day at the lake.
The SLCA sincerely hopes that you enjoyed the events and information
the we provided throughout the year, and we encourage your
participation and opinions for the future.
The 2009 Photo Albums are
now on-line. We have many fantastic contributions from Marlene Pollard,
Jimmy Nevins, and several others around the lake. Please send us your
best pics.
This year's Annual General Meeting was followed by a fantastic barbeque
lunch. If you didn't attend, you missed something special.
The Annual Meeting also brought change to the SLCA, with Dave Golem
stepping down as President of the association.
Steve Churchill will now take on the role of President, and yours
truly, Anthony Genovese, will assume Steve's previous responsibilty as
Vice-President.
Please join me in extending a great big "Thank You" to Dave Golem for
his years of service to lake.
In the next couple of weeks, your current SLCA will be gathering to
plan for the 2010 season. There is still time to offer your thoughts
and your concerns. You can reach out to us by e-mail (listed at the
bottom of this page), by phone (using the Membership list), or around
the lake (our favourite place to be).
And please don't forget your Annual SLCA Membership dues. Without your
support, this organization could not exist.

What a fantastic weekend at the lake. With the wonderful weather, we
had record attendance for the last two big events of the summer.
We had a great turnout for the Fun Run on Saturday. Congratulations to
those who received medals, and a big thank you to all who came out to
run, to walk, or to assist with the event.
The Lake Concert was even bigger and better than last year. The
Claidhmor's have CD's available for purchase to anyone who is
interested.
We hope to have pictures and additional information on the website soon.

Make note of the following events occuring over the next week.
The Annual General Meeting is on August 2nd, at 10am at the Limmerick
Community Center (Located in Coe Hill on Hwy 620). Coffee is served at
9:30am.
A Barbeque will follow this year's meeting.
The Unplugged Poker Run is scheduled for July 29th & 30th.
The Moonlight Movie has been rescheduled to Saturday, August 1st. If it
rains again, it will be pushed out to Sunday, August 2nd.
As always, visit the Event
section of the website for up-to-date information.

Despite the rain and a little distant thunder, the regatta went ahead
today to the enjoyment of all the kids and most of the adults too.
Carolyn, thanks again for an outstanding job organizing the races, and
to all your assistants. Steve prevailed against the weather to serve
dogs and hamburgers to the hungry.
As the races were just starting Marlene counted over 50 attendees, and
I can count at least 10 more people who showed up after that, so the
turnout was amazing given the conditions.
Maybe next year we will have sunshine and even more participants. Dave
Golem
Send
us your pictures for the web album.
New
Event Added - Movie Night
For your outdoor enjoyment, another event has been added to the summer
line-up.
A Moonlight Movie is scheduled for July 25, starting at 8:45pm across
from Loon Island. If you don't know where that is, just look for the
movie screen on that evening, and anchor your boat in front of it.
Note that this event will be very dependant on the weather, meaning
calm waters, no rain or wind. For more information, please visit the Event section of the website.

Some of you may have noticed that our water levels have been somewhat
higher than usual.
Our lake steward, Rick Burke, has been in contact with the Crowe Valley
Conservation Authority, and they have confirmed the recent removal of a
couple beaver dams that were restricting the water flow out of our lake.
This should allow the lake level to correct itself over the next few
days.

Happy Canada Day!!!
It's July and the summer is in full swing at the lake. Come out and
join your neighbours for some good times.
Starting in July, Tuesday's are for Golfing at the River's Edge, and
Casual Dining at local restaurants. On July 11th, don't forget about
the Road Clean-up and the Annual Lake Regatta.
Be sure to check-out the Events
section of the website often for possible new events throughout the
summer.

With summer comes road construction, and Highway 62 is no exception.
One of our members, who works for the Ministry of Transporation,
reports that MTO has a contract tendered for the resurfacing of Highway
62 between Ivanhoe and Madoc, to be completed by fall 2009.
MTO`s published infrastructure program is indicating that Highway 62,
between Cleveland Rd. and Hastings Rd. 620 (Ormsby), is planned to
start sometime late this year for completion in 2010.
You can find more information at the MTO
website.

The Victoria Day long
weekend marks the official start of the summer cottage season at
Steenburg Lake.
Now that the cobwebs have been dusted and the boat has been launched,
it is time to have some fun around our lake.
The 2009 Events Calendar
has been updated with several new and exciting activities, and we hope
you have the opportunity to enjoy them.
In keeping with the long
term protection of our lake, please ensure that your septic system is
clean and up to code.
The
SLCA is currently gathering a list of cottages that are interested in
having their septic cleaned in 2009, with the
intent of
negotiating a reduced group rate for the service. If you
would
like to be added to this list, please contact Rick.Burke@steenburglake.com
The Steenburg Lake Community Association would like to wish everyone a safe and happy summer.

Today I walked along the
shore of the lake. What a beautiful day!!!!
Background noise consisted of one boat motor and lots of
birds.
We can't believe the birds feeding at our feeders this year. They are
unbelievable. Took a picture of a Pine Siskin today and I am not sure
if she is sick or just in the family way.
The lake today was just like glass and no the black flies are not
biting yet. Also took a picture of a tree that the Pileated Woodpecker
worked on. No Hummingbirds yet but I am sure they are just around the
corner waiting for me to put out their feeders.
Hope everyone is looking forward to a great spring and summer this
year. I know we are. Marlene
Pollard

Property owners on the South Steenburg Lake road are asked to visit our Lake Talk section of the website for an important update on the winter service of the road. If you use the south road during the winter months, it is important that you participate in the road maintenance program.
Those who have property within Limmerick Township should also visit the Lake Talk section for information about the proposed changes to the by-laws that will attempt to protect the lakefront properties.
Your opinions and comments are invited on both these topics.

A US study of bird migration habits from 1966 through 2005 found that more than half of 305 bird species in North America are wintering farther north than they did 40 years ago.
The purple finch is an extreme example of this shift, spending its winters more than 400 mi (643.7 km) farther north than it did in the past. Most of the bird species observed are staying an average of 35 mi (56.3 km) north of their previous winter spots.
Over the last 40 years, the average January temperature in the US rose about 5 degrees Fahrenheit, and experts believe that this warming has prompted the birds to winter in more northerly areas.
This winter, Marlene Pollard has observed the biggest variety of birds in 9 winters. In the Photo Album, you'll find her photos of Downy Woodpeckers, Hairy Woodpeckers, Yellow Finches, Red Breasted Nut Hatches, Pine Siskins, Redpolls, and Blue Jays.

It's just another cold, but beautiful, winter day at the lake. The birds and the snow is plentiful. Whether you come up to snowmobile, bond with nature, or simply clean the snow off your roof, you are sure to achieve peace of mind during your stay. Spring will be here soon, and it will be time to process some of the trees that have fallen victim to the winter.
